In addressing individual needs I have found that a balanced approach regarding intervention strategies is most useful. What I mean by a balanced approach is one that focuses on both Body and Mind and, as well as the Mind-Body interaction. To do this I have found after many years of serving clients in clinical settings, that three main intervention strategies will bring optimal results. First, Biofeedback,  including EEG Biofeedback (Neurofeedback), directly addresses the interface  or interaction of Body and Mind. By gaining an understanding and control of physiological functions in the Body, the individual is both empowered by being able to Self-Regulate (e.g., reduce blood pressure, decrease muscle tension) and by learning how to modify psychological states (e.g., become more attentive, or reduce anxious feelings). The second arm of my clinical approach, includes a new development in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  This second approach makes use of the power of language in affecting human behavior. ACT is both about the problem of human suffering  and honoring the larger purpose of one’s life. The final component of my approach is Mindfulness, which is a particular way of paying attention that optimizes the effectiveness of the first two approaches


The decision of which course of therapy is most appropriate for the client depends on each individual’s situation. In some cases, Neurofeedback/Biofeedback may be more appropriate, while in others, ACT may be best to address the individual’s needs. Often a combination of Biofeedback and ACT is  used  for best results. Mindfulness training is frequently   an important component to whatever combination of treatment methods is employed.
